ENGINEERING ANALYSIS

Ever since it’s early beginnings, TDMG has developed an expertise in the field of engineering analysis. TDMG’s analysis capabilities are extensive from thermal and flow analysis to stress and vibration, and other capabilities as well. Founded on the experience of one of TDMG’s principals who spent a significant amount of time performing analysis on gas turbine and other highly complex systems, TDMG now has world class analysis capabilities to perform extensive engineering analysis.

Engineering analysis is often used to de-risk the design process. Each industry has its own standards for design procedures, however, in a day where time to market and cost are highly important factors in the product development phase, engineering analysis is also becoming more important. As an example, whereas 10 years ago many companies developing electronic components might simply build a prototype and then just slap on a heatsink on those components that might have been too hot, it is almost unthinkable to do that today. Due to miniaturization and the high IC heat fluxes of today, the risk of having to build many prototypes in order to get an adequate design is too high. The cost and, perhaps more importantly, the time delays associated with multiple prototypes would be too high a risk for any company. As a result, it is much more common to perform the necessary flow and thermal analysis on such equipment well before the prototypes are made. The same can be said for other types of analysis, such as stress and vibration.

TDMG has focused a number of areas of specialization:

Electronics Cooling: This is one of TDMG’s major area of specialization, covering every type of electronic equipment imaginable from table top units to outdoor equipment. TDMG has been serving this market segment since its beginnings in 1999 and has acquired a significant amount of experience as well as prototype and manufacturing capabilities. Please see the Cooling Products page for more details.

Building Airflow: This is another of TDMG’s major area of specialization. Although this is area has been developing strongly over the last 5 years, we believe that with the advent of LEED® and energy conservation efforts throughout the world, the need to adequately study the airflows and thermal effects within building structures will become even more important. As a result, TDMG has invested significantly in this market by procuring world class software capable of handling any type of building problem, be it data center, clean room, indoor pools and water parks, LEED® related issues, etc.

Flow & Thermal: TDMG has also performed general flow & thermal analysis for applications varying from manufacturing process development, fire propagation scenarios, aerospace structures, defence applications, industrial equipment, medical components, naval equipment, rail transport applications, and others. We can perform calculations, CFD analysis, and testing depending on the needs of the customer.

Stress & Vibration: Stress & Vibration analysis is another area of specialization for TDMG. Again since the early beginning TDMG has performed extensive stress analysis for varying applications. Whether it be a simple stress / deflection analysis or more complex vibration or dynamics analysis, TDMG can support your needs with extensive knowledge and world class software for accurate results.

Testing: In support of its extensive design and analysis capabilities, TDMG inaugurated its flow and thermal test lab in 2006. The lab, an 800 square foot facility, is to be used for flow testing and thermal characterization of electronic cooling and other general applications. TDMG’s windtunnel facility can generate flows up to 750 CFM. The lab contains state of the art pressure, temperature, and flow measurement devices and data logging equipment.
